I wrote a piece of music based on a poem by Martha Postlethwaite which I also love.  The poem is called Clearing and goes like this:

Do not try to save
the whole world
or do anything grandiose.
Instead, create
a clearing
in the dense forest
of your life
and wait there
patiently,
until the song
that is your life
falls into your own cupped hands
and you recognize and greet it.
Only then will you know
how to give yourself
to this world
so worthy of rescue.

This youtube version has me on all vocals. Please write to me if you would like a PDF of the score.

And here is a version with 9 singers and a violinist recorded at the Conseil des Arts de Montréal on October 27th, 2018.

(Allie Weigh, Krissi Campbell, Avery Gietz, Finn Upham, Chloé Génie, Gwenn Fritau, Catherine Harrison-Boisvert, Melanie Kerridge, Sara Breitkreutz,  and Kali Halapau on violin)
